A Detroit wedding.

The Gem Theatre built in 1927 is an absolute diamond in the rough and a spectacular venue for a wedding.
Congratulations to Christine and Stephen.
I'd only been to Detroit once for a short visit prior to our stop there this weekend for Chrissy and Stephen's wedding. While only a four hour drive from Toronto, there are a world of differences and sights to take in. I went for a run through the city streets early on Sunday morning and I was astonished by the number of abandoned buildings and lack of bustle and city life. It's actually quite fascinating.

I found a photo essay (see work below) that really captures how I feel about downtown Detroit. "For a number of reasons, people have recently evacuated or otherwise abandoned a number of places around the world -- large and small, old and new. Gathering images of deserted areas, one can get a sense of what the world might look like if humans were to vanish from the planet altogether. Collected here are recent scenes from blighted urban neighborhoods, towns where residents left to escape violence, unsold developments built during the real estate boom, ghost towns, and more."
Unbeknownst to us prior to our visit, there is a Mexicantown in Detroit.
Obviously this was a highlight!
